In late September of 1997, business travel took me to Santiago, Chile. After finishing in Santiago, I flew north to La Serena, rented a car, and drove an hour to Vicuña, Chile. There, with the help of the local amateurs, I spend part of three nights in the mountains outside of Vicuña taking some of the astrophotos shown on this site. Read all about it in "Astrophotography To Go" in the July 1998 issue of Sky & Telescope magazine. (Some of the images were used in the February 2001 issue as well.) These are a few of the daytime photos I took around Vicuña and while visiting the Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory (CTIO) near there.
